It’s time to say good bye

Posted on

Good evening Loves.  I always knew this day would come – the day when My Diary will have to say good bye.

Over the last few years I have loved getting to know you and I hope you loved reading My Diary just as much as I loved writing in it.

I started this blog as an emotional (mostly angry and sad) twenty something and now at 33 years old I can finally say that I am in a good place in life.  After suddenly losing my best friend Kevin Michael, hitting a personal rock bottom after the market crash and being betrayed by my family, I can say that My Diary helped me get through the past few years safe and sound…I even lived to tell the story.  If I didn’t have My Diary I don’t know where I would be today – and that’s the truth.

My Diary started as a healthy outlet to express my emotions and find my place in the world; today I feel that I am much better off than I was just a few years ago.

Thank you all for taking this journey with me and I hope that we stay in touch on Twitter and Facebook.

I am starting some new adventures in life – both personal and career – and I hope we continue to stay friends as you join me in this new phase of my life @ www.tahnyakristina.com

If you just aren’t ready to part ways yet than please stay, have a look around and browse through some oldies but goodies.

And who knows, we may just find ourselves back here again someday; but for now this is the last page in My Diary.

Love Always,

My secret single behaviour

Posted on

Good morning Loves.  OK so I’m not single and I don’t really have secret behaviour because I do live with my boyfriend, but I do have some bizarre behaviours and personal habits that other people don’t know about me – and I’m going to share them with you right now.

There is an episode of Sex and the City where Carrie and the girls talk about their secret single behaviour – all the things they like to do when they are home alone, without their boyfriends on a Saturday night.  Miranda likes to wear moisturizing gloves while watching infomercials and Charlotte likes to look at her pores in a magnifying mirror.

What’s your secret single behaviour?

These are my three weird and not so attractive personal habits:

I love to eat French fries with gravy and ketchup.  I know it sounds gross and it really makes the French fries mushy, but I’ve been doing it since high school and I just love the taste.

I wear man socks.  It’s true and it’s not cute, but girl socks are just too thin.  I like to wear man socks because they are thicker, warmer and way more comfortable than girl socks.

I can eat a whole medium pizza by myself.  Should I do it? No.  It’s a bad personal habit, but I can’t help it – I really love pizza.  When my boyfriend and I order delivery we each get our own pizza, partly because I’m a vegetarian and he’s a meat lover and partly because I “Go H.A.M” on pizza – as my boyfriend puts it.

OK so that’s a little bit about me.  Now what’s your secret?

Love Always,

Figuring out if Marriage is a Good Fit for Me

Posted on

rings

I have been fortunate to have been with the same person for over 5 years. I have to admit sometimes it feels like it is much longer. Only people who have been in long relationships can understand what I am talking about. Most days though, I am so happy to be with this person as we have truly been through some trials and tribulations that have tested our relationship. We have been through so much but sometimes I wonder about where marriage plays in our relationship. I wonder if that whole traditional marriage path is the right one for us.

Let me start off by saying that I am not a very traditional person. I am not one of those girls who had vivid dreams of a gorgeous white wedding. I have been the type of person who was always more focused on getting good grades or hanging out with friends. I didn’t have problems with anyone who was interested in that but it just never appealed to me. Looking at bridal magazines for hours at a time was not really  something that I ever did. In addition, I wasn’t even sure if I would ever get married. I wanted to find someone to share my life. I just didn’t know if that would involve a set of rings and a wedding reception.

My boyfriend and I have that kind of relationship where we can talk about anything. We have had conversations before about where marriage can fit in to our lives. Luckily, we both have similar views of where we want things to be like. He has told me on several occasions that wedding bells are not that important to him. We certainly don’t want to get married just because society wants it that way. We both agree that the commitment to the person is what really counts. Having a piece of paper doesn’t necessarily mean that both people in the relationship are committed. Keeping that love alive is what is really necessary to thrive.

I can think of a lot of reasons to get married as well. It would be nice to have some of the legal protections that being married brings. In addition, it would be good to know of something happened to me, then he would legally have a say in any medical treatments and the like. Also, despite everything, there is a part of me that wants to make it official. I want to make it official and not tell anybody. Isn’t that funny? I guess I am someone that is still deciding the best path.

Marriage really is a beautiful thing. It can further enhance a great relationship and provide a sense of support for the people involved. There are many different types of couples and types of commitment. Some marriages are even arranged and some are love matches. Making sure you find something that works for you and your partner is what is important. Keeping that feeling of togetherness is what should count. Marriage is something that I still need to figure out.

Take Care,

Natalie

OH Lord, if I only knew then…Words of advice to my 20 year old self

(Did I ever tell you that I LOVE monkeys?  Thinking monkeys are even better)

Hello Loves.

If you are like me – meaning old – then almost daily your think to yourself “Wow, I wish I knew that when I was 20!” I am going to be 33 years old in a few weeks and I have to say that I love the experience that comes with age.  I am not a huge fan of the emotional mood swings and the excess weight that comes when I so much as look at dessert, but I am a big fan of the experience that comes with age.

It is true what they say – knowledge really does come with experience and we can only gain experience by getting older.  When I was 20 years old I thought that I knew it all, but thirteen years later I have come to learn that I was wrong.

If I could go back and give my younger self a few words of advice I would say:

- Don’t open a credit card until you graduate from university.

- Travel more – even if it’s only for the weekend.

- Don’t move in with your boyfriend until he is your husband.

Don’t worry, I am not going to go on and on about all the mistakes I’ve made over the years because I have learned from them.  I am not one of those people who will try to preach their knowledge to the younger generation.  Actually the exact opposite is true, I enjoy watching the young ones make their mistakes.  I just sit back and watch the early twenty-somethings live their lives – I just smile and think “Oh it’s ok they will learn…eventually”.

Fortunately, MSN is a better person than I am.  Our beloved MSN is also getting old and they are willing to share their knowledge with the younger generations.

If you want to make it through your 20s take these words of advice from MSN:

- Time is not limitless, you will eventually get tired.

- Talent is overrated because everyone has talent, you have to be different.

- You are more productive in the morning, so stop pulling all nighters.

- Don’t wait to be told what to do, go out and make things happen.

- Take responsibility for your mistakes.

What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?

Love Always,

I Totally Love Summer Because…

Posted on

Good morning Loves. I survived my whirl wind week and to reward myself for all my hard work I spent part of Saturday evening and all of Sunday maxing and relaxing chilling by the pool – Did you get The Fresh Prince of Bel Air reference?

At day at the pool sounds perfect, doesn’t it?

I hope you had just as great of a weekend as I did. If  you read My Diary Entry on a regular basis you know that I am not a huge fan of the elements.  I live in Montreal where we have four very different seasons.  I don’t particularly like to be really cold or really wet so I try to avoid leaving my apartment (except for work) from November to April during winter and spring.  However I always try to take full advantage of the summer and Fall seasons.

Do the elements affect your mood?

I absolutely love summer and here’s why…

1. There are always pools involved. I love the water, I could literally spend my entire weekend hanging out at the pool.

2. Weekend road trips in the summer are the best.  This summer I went to Niagara Falls and I’m going to Toronto, Vermont and African Lion Safari on my way home to London in a few weeks.

3. Ice cream sundaes.  I feel that it’s acceptable to eat ice cream at any time during the summer because it helps keep our body temp down during the heat waves.

4. Working on my tan.  If you follow me on Twitter you know that my goal this summer is to get a J.Lo glow before the end of August and I am well on my way.  I admit that I look like Edward Cullen during the winter with my pale skin.

5. Summer means that Fall is coming. I love Fall because it’s my birthday. On October 9 I will be spending my 33rd birthday in NYC! Woo Woo!

What do you love the most about summer?

Love Always,

My 2013 Goals: Freelance Writing, $20K & 120 lbs

Posted on

Good Morning Loves. Last week I published a post about the one thing that I am not going to do this year and it suddenly dawned on me that I didn’t tell everyone about my personal goals and resolutions for 2013.

I have vowed not to wake up early and make the most out of my mornings in 2013 because I truly believe that there is nothing you can do at 8 am that you can’t do at 2 pm.

I received some emails and Twitter comments wondering why I am only setting personal goals of things that I don’t want to do in 2013 instead of listing all the things that I want to accomplish this year.

If you read My Diary Entry on a regular basis you know that I am a huge planner (some may even say OCD) and I am a big fan of lists.

So here it is…my list of things to do in 2013.

Money Goals:

1. Save $15,000: That’s $1250 per month and so far I am on track

2. Earn $20,000 from my freelance writing income: That’s $1667 per month but the problem is that freelance writing does not always provide a steady income. Just to give you an idea of my freelance writing income from past years I earned $7,800 in 2011 and $14,500 in 2012. More to come next week on how I am going to achieve my freelance writing income goal this year.

Career Goals:

1. Start a professional website for my freelance writing services: This is my current priority, I am deciding between tahnyakristina.com or Pen and Paper Communications –what do you think?

2. Become an active member of an online blogging network: A network will help promote and grow this blog to be the best that it can be. I am leaning towards BlogHer, Yakezie or Clever Member – are you a member of a blog network?

3. Find a publisher for my first book A Better You and get it in stores:  I want to travel and speak at schools, workshops and conferences to help people find their dream job, earn more income, become debt free and find personal happiness. I did it and I want to help people do it too.

Fitness Goals:

1. Reach my goal weight by July 31: This year I started exercising on a regular basis and I absolutely love it.  My entire outlook on life has changed and I am a happier person.

2. Join an online fitness community: The only way to keep fit and have fun is to have a support system. I am leaning towards Fit Fluential – any other suggestions?

What are your goals for 2013?

Love Always,

Badass in My Rain Boots

Posted on

Good morning everyone.  Let me ask you a question…how do you feel today? Some days we feel sad, some days we feel happy, some days we feel defeated and some days we just feel totally badass!

With the cold winter weather Montreal has been getting hit with some pretty nasty storms lately.  Some days it rains, some days it snows and some days it does both.  This leaves me very confused not knowing whether I should wear my winter boots or my rain boots.

I have never been a huge fan of rain boots, not because I don’t see their value but just because I hate it when grown adults wear rain boots with cute little kittens, yellow ducks and colourful umbrellas.

Last year I gave into the wet weather and I purchased a pair of navy blue rain boots; they don’t have any colourful or cute designs they are just a pair of nice dark blue boots.  I have to tell you that I was hesitant at first because they are heavy and hard to walk in but I have to admit that I feel totally badass when I wear my rain boots.

You know that powerful feeling that you get right after you watch a super hero movie? That feeling of total awesomeness like you could fly, crush a building or just totally kick some bad villain butt? Well that’s the feeling that I get when I wear my rain boots.

I jump in puddles and I walk through water like it’s no big deal.  I love my new rain boots because I feel totally invincible.  While other people are running through the rain and avoiding street corner puddles I am just casually strolling along the streets hoping to walk through a big puddle.

What makes you feel totally badass?

Love Always.

Bye Bye 2012 and Happy New Year!

Posted on

In a few hours 2012 will be over and the New Year will begin.  I don’t have big plans tonight but in 2 days I am off to awesome Las Vegas – I can’t wait to get out of this cold/snowy weather. I have just about had it with winter and it’s only December.

I have to admit that I am extremely sad to see 2012 go because it was a great year for me.  I finally finished my first book (A Better You is on sale now!) and I am only a few days away from getting my dream job (more to come on that).  I was also fortunate enough to travel several times this year – I went to NYC twice, I travelled to Denver and most recently I went to Boston.  All and all 2012 was a great year and I am looking forward to 2013.

As a Christmas gift from my BF I got a one year subscription to SELF Magazine and after only 1 issue I am totally loving it (Did you get the JT/Mc Donald’s reference?).  I can’t believe that I lived 32 years without ever reading SELF Magazine, it’s ok because now I am totally hooked and I am going to make up for lost time.

In the December issue SELF Magazine published a year-in-review article that I think is great.  It’s kind of like a diary entry to reflect on all of the great things (or not so great things) that happened to you this year.  Since I am a big fan of diary entries (hint hint wink wink) I felt the need to share.

So check it out, fill in the blanks and tell me…how was your 2012? My answers are below in bold.

- In 2012, I finally chucked my silver necklace that was so old it was changing colour. I’ll never tell youhow long I had it.

- The most delicious thing I ate in 2012 was Deep Dish Pizza in Chicago.

- Last year, my best friends were my biggest fan. Thanks, boo! (you know who you are ladies)

- Because I rocked and published my first book last year, in 2013 I wil treat myself to a week in Las Vegas.

- Too bad the song Diva by Beyonce can’t start playing when I walk into a room.

- The nicest thing someone said to me last year was “your butt looks awesome in those jeans”.

- I was scared when I went to get my annual check up at the doctor. But I did it anyway.

- This year I will reserve more time for exercise.

Love Always,

Oh I am so jealous that you met Tony Danza!

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - APRIL 28: Actor Tony Danz...

Good Morning Everyone. Last week my fellow blogger The Bloggess wrote a post titled “Hold me closer, Tony Danza”. Being that I am a huge fan of Tony Danza, his acting career, his gorgeous smile and his great hair I, of course, had to check out the post.I thought that I was going to read a blog post about The Bloggess watching a marathon of past Tony Danza sitcoms such as “Taxi” or “Who’s the Boss”, but what did I actually see you ask? I was totally shocked to see a photo of The Bloggess arm in arm with Mr. Tony Danza. That’s right not an imitation and not an imposter but the real life Tony Danza. My fellow blogger got to meet the gorgeous Brooklyn boxer turned housekeeper from the television show “Who’s The Boss” and I am totally jealous (but also very happy) for her.English: Ryan Reynolds on set Svenska: Ryan Re...And guess what? That’s not even the whole story! Not only did The Bloggess post a picture of herself with Tony Danza, but she also bragged about her conversation with him. Oh yes people, she actually spoke to him.  Needless to say that I am so incredibly jealous of her photo and conversation with Tony Danza that I felt the need to write a post about it.

Justin Timberlake

The Bloggess has inspired me to think about all of the famous/hot Hollywood men that I hope to meet some day.  Although I am positive that my conversation with a famous/hot actor would not be as cool as The Bloggess’ conversation with Tony Danza.  I am actually kind of a geek and a little bit socially awkward around hot guys, or any guy who pays me any attention for that matter; it’s honestly a miracle that I have a boyfriend.

If I ever met a famous person I am sure that this is how the conversation would go:

Me: (blank stare)

Famous/Hot Guy: “Hello, can I help you?”

Me: (smile)

Famous/Hot Guy: “Do you want me to sign something?”

Me: (turning bright red because I have very pale skin)

Famous/Hot Guy: “Would you like to take a photo?”

Me: (slowly turn around and walk away without an autograph and without a photo)

10 Famous/Hot Guys that I would Love to Meet:

- Paul Walker

- Jimmy Fallon

- Jay-Z

- Anderson Cooper

- Tony Danza

- Justin Timberlake

- Kevin Bacon

- T.I.

- President Barack Obama

- Ryan Reynolds
