Friday Faves: Rihanna and Strippers

Posted on

Earlier this week on Facebook I promised to show you the video of my favourite song right now, but apparently there is no video – so we will all just have to listen to Pour it up by Rihanna. I have to say that I am absolutely loving this song right now and I am also totally loving Rihanna.

Not too long ago Rihanna was in the news for “making it rain” at a strip club by throwing hundreds of dollars in the air and letting them all fall down.  This little publicity stunt makes the lyrics to the song Pour it up seem very fitting – strip clubs and dollar bills, still got my money.

Anyways being that I listen to this song at least twice a day I started thinking…why do people hate on strippers so much.  Yes they are portrayed as skanky low class girls in movies but are they really that bad in real life? I am not so sure.

I have never actually been to a strip club but I am not hating on strippers, I wouldn’t do it because I don’t have the body – but I do love to dance. So I say if you’ve got the moves and you’ve got the body and you don’t have a narcotics habit – then go for it and make some money.

Here are 6 other reasons why it’s not so bad to be a stripper:

1. Money can all be spent in the same places, no matter how you earn it.

2. Every time you go to work you walk out with money in your pocket (how many of us 9 to 5ers can say that?).

3. You learn about entrepreneurship and money management because you are self employed.

4. Strippers are hard workers – the more you work the more money you make (it’s of like my freelance writing  in that way).

5. Strippers are creative people who get to play dress up and make belief every single time they go to work (I for one would like to not wear a grey or black suit to work every single day).

6. They have to stay in shape. That is way better than sitting on my ass at a desk every single day!

Just to play devil’s advocate, here are 5 reasons why being a stripper is not so great:

1. You can’t put it on your resume so you are wasting valuable years of experience.

2.You have to work at night – I for one am usually in bed by 10 pm so this just couldn’t work for me.

3. You may be ashamed to tell your family and friends what you do – even though you probably make more money than they do.

4. Strippers have a taboo reputation in society – even though they shouldn’t because at least they are working and not at home collecting unemployment insurance.

5. Strippers may in danger of clients who want to take their personal lap dance just a little bit too far – take some self defence classes ladies!

Enjoy the music and have a great weekend!

Love Always,

Friday Faves: Bizarre Facts about Canada

Posted on

Good Morning Loves and Happy Friday.  It’s Victoria Day weekend up here in Canada and that means on Monday morning I don’t have to wake up to my alarm clock.  When Monday comes around I can sleep in, wake up at my leisure and watch The Price is Right…I love that game show.

This week I saw an interesting post on MSN and I wanted to share with you.

Check out these bizarre facts about the great country that we call Canada…

- We harvest icebergs on the east coast (anyone else thinking about the movie Titanic?)

- We built a UFO landing pad

- The majority of the world’s caesium is in Manitoba (What is caesium and can we sell it?)

- We have the world’s safest highways for animals (LOL good to know!)

- We are the country that consumes more macaroni and cheese than any other country on earth

- Our national park in Alberta is larger than the country of Switzerland

- We host an annual bathtub race in Vancouver (Bathtubs with motors?!?!)

- Peterborough, Ontario is the canoe capital of the world (Of course it is.)

Some interesting but not so bizarre facts about Canada…

- We invented basketball

- The telephone was invented in Canada – and so was the electric stove

- 35 years ago we had mail delivered on Saturdays

- Canada is the second largest country in the world – after Russia

- We have the longest coastline in the world – over 150,000 miles (How many kms is that?)

Happy Victoria Day Weekend!

Happy Friday Everyone and can I just say T-G-I-F. I had a long week at my new job and now I am ready to sleep in and watch Ghostbusters. I don’t know why – but I have a huge urge to watch Ghostbusters. I think that it’s becuase it’s cloudy here in Montreal and for some reason every time I see a grey cloudy sky I think about the movie Ghostbusters.

I hope the music is making you smile. Enjoy these great posts from my friends.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday Faves: Looking for a good book to read?

Posted on

Happy Good Friday Loves.  I recently finished reading two great books and – as is the case with all good things that happen to me – I feel the need to share with you.

Tick TockIf you have checked out my bookshelf lately you will notice that I recently finished reading Tick Tock by James Patterson. In true James Patterson fashion this book was a good read.  It took a little bit of time for the story to get going, but a quarter of the way into the book I was hooked and I had to know what happens next in the life of Detective Michael Bennett.

This crime thriller has an action packed storyline with an interesting and unexpected twist at the end. I love it when the story in a book all comes together, in crime thrillers the why is very important for me.  I like to guess what will happen – although I very rarely figure it out.  That’s why the motive behind a crime thriller is so important to the story.  If you want an easy read with a mysterious plot and a little bit of family drama pick up a copy of Tick Tock by James Patterson.

After reading a serious crime thriller I like to take a break from the serious side of life and read a lighthearted, feel good, funny book…let me tell you that White Girl Problems by Babe Walker is just that.

White Girl ProblemsI absolutely loved reading this book; it was the perfect pick me up.  White Girl Problems by Babe Walker will make you laugh so hard that you will cry.  If you have ever let a superficial mishap take over your life and turn into the end of the world as you know it then you have had a white girl problem.

My two favourite parts of this book are Babe’s jungle themed birthday party and the first time that she has sex.  Everyone needs to pick up a copy of this book because it will change your attitude and make you rethink what really matters in life.  A little word to the wise – things that you think are problems are really not!

A little piece of advice – but not a spoiler alert – read this book in the comfort of your own home or in another secluded area.  I made the mistake of reading White Girl Problems on a four hour flight and I was laughing so hard I must have seemed like a crazy person to the man sitting beside me.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Love Always,

Friday Faves: The best thing that happend to me this week

Posted on

Happy Friday Loves. This week I discovered that Waka Waka is the song that helps me run at my peak performance, so I hope it helps send a little motivation your way.

Today’s post is short and sweet; it’s a little bit about running and a lot about the best thing that happened to me all week.

Speaking of good things – don’t forget to enter our giveaway for your chance to win personalized stationary from Minted.com – that’s a $75 gift card just for you!

Has something ever happened to you that didn’t directly involve you but it had such an impact on you that you will be remembering it and talking about for days to come?

Tuesday morning as I was on my way up to the 15th floor of my office building to start my day in corporate communications a woman entered the elevator just as the doors were closing.  Although I didn’t recognize her face (most likely because I’m new at my job and still getting to know everyone) I realized that she was also on her way up to the 15th floor.

What is the one song that always makes you want to sing along?

For me it’s anything by Mariah Carey.  As the elevator doors closed and we started ascending up to our respective offices the woman broke out into song, yep a full blown Broadway show. I am laughing so hard right now as I remember how it happened as if it just happened this morning.

I know that I myself have got carried away when a great song comes onto my iPod; sometimes I even want to sing or dance, but if I am in public I stop myself before my Broadway appearance gets out of hand.  However, the woman was NOT listening to an iPod, I repeat, she did not have an iPod.

What do you do when you can’t believe your eyes and ears?

I can’t even tell you what song the woman was singing.  I was in such shock about what was happening – and so early in the morning no less – that I couldn’t even focus.  This was the best thing that happened to me all week and every time I think about the woman singing in the elevator it brings a smile to my face.  Has anything like this every happened to you?

Have a great weekend.

My fave beauty products right now

Posted on

Happy Friday everyone.  I am starting the weekend off on the right foot – with a relaxing beautifying night at home.  As I write this post I am dying my hair (dark brown to cover the newfound grey) and relaxing with a LUSH fresh face mask. I absolutely love home spa days, mostly because I will find any excuse to relax and partly because I love getting my beauty on!

As you know My Diary Entry is all about sharing the love, so here we go…

Get your gorgeous on with my favourite beauty products

I love a good LUSH fresh face mask.  I have a shiny face that is also very pale and kind of red so I need to be very careful about the products that I use on my visage (that’s French for face). I like to relax with a LUSH fresh face mask at least twice a week to keep my skin acne free and even out my skin tone.  My two favourite face masks are Cupcake which is full of chocolate goodness and Catastrophe Cosmetic which is full of luscious blueberries; both are great for the skin tone!

This solid perfume from Perfumies is totally awesome. I usually spray on my perfume, but I have tried roll on perfumes and now I have tried solid perfume.  This is a great way to travel through airport security with your perfume in hand and if you pack this solid perfume into your luggage you don’t have to worry about it leaking all over your clothes. I discovered this solid perfume in last month’s Beauty Box 5 and now I use it all the time.

I received a home spa pedicure kit for Christmas and although sometimes it’s very hard to relax without your feet touching anything, I do love home pedicures.  I don’t always have an hour to spend at the spa getting a pedicure so I was happy to discover a foot scrub, a lavender foot mask, soothing cherry foot cream, and moisturizing aloe socks.

Since my eye surgery last April I haven’t worn my contact lenses very often, but when I do I love wearing makeup.  I love this eye shadow pallet from Victoria’s Secret because the eye shadows are smooth (not rough, they don’t flake) and it comes with easy-to-use instructions.  I purchased a dark smoky eye pallet with shades of grey and a bright eyed pallet with shades of purple. These pallets come complete with brushes, 3 shades of colour and eye liner.

What is your favourite beauty product right now?

Love Always,

Friday Faves: Tips to help you blog better

Posted on

Pinned Image

Happy Friday.  This week has been all about sharing the love on My Diary Entry and today is no different.  We started off the week with two amazing giveaways – in case you didn’t have a chance to check them out you can enter to win two books here and a gift box full of cosmetics here.

I recently celebrated my four year blogging anniversary and to say that I have learned a lot over the past four years would be an understatement.  Today I am sharing my knowledge with you, if you are a new blogger who is trying to get your blog noticed or if you are a seasoned blogger who wants to take their blog to the next level then look no further I am here to help.

Blog Better with these 3 tips:

1. Join a network. No one will promote your blog (no matter how great it is), so go online and promote yourself.  Joining a blog network in your niche is a great way to spread the word about your blog and meet experienced bloggers.

Some well known blogging networks include BlogHer, SheBlogs, Clever Member and Yakezie.  Make personal connections with other bloggers and try to find ways to work together.  Attending blog conferences is another great way to learn about blogging, meet other bloggers and promote your blog (and your services if you also freelance).

2. Get on Twitter.  Find a tweet chat about your blog’s topic and join the conversation.  Actually all social media is a good way to promote your blog.  If you don’t have one yet you should create a Facebook page for your blog and join Pinterest.

Any type of sharing social media is a great way for you to share and promote your blog.  There is a WordPress plugin that allows you to post blog comments directly to your Facebook page – another great sharing tool to promote your blog.

Add photos and videos.  Writing for the web takes a special talent – visual effects are the key to a successful blog. No one wants to read page after page of only words so make your blog pretty and appealing with photos, videos and subtitles.

Your blog should be easy to read regardless of the topic and intended purpose.  Speaking of which, your blog should have a purpose – ask yourself what are you writing about and why should people read it.

Happy Blogging.

PS – if you have questions about blogging please contact me anytime, I would be happy to check out your blog and give you some feedback.

Friday Faves: My favourite healthy snacks

Posted on

I am not going to lie – I love snacking.  I like to snack in the morning, I like to snack in the afternoon and sometimes I even like to snack before bed.  I know it’s not good for my health but sometimes I just really like going to bed with a full belly.

As you know I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle by exercising on a regular basis and making healthy food choices, well let me tell you that snacking definitely gets in the way of my newfound healthy habits.

I don’t know what it is about snacking but it’s comforting. I have already given up eating pizza and I have cut down on my sugar and sweets to accommodate my healthy lifestyle, I didn’t want to give up snacking too.

The key to not making too many snacking sacrifices and still watching my daily calorie intake is to find healthy, yet satisfying, snacks to eat.  If a new habit is too much of a change or too much of an effort I definitely won’t stick to it.  So I had to find a middle ground and still snack.

Can you guess what snacks I love to eat?

Bananas.  I love to start my day with a banana.  Bananas are both filling and sweet; they provide the perfect kick start to a day. If bananas aren’t your fruit of preference then any fruit will do because it will fill your belly and satisfy your sugar cravings or sugar void.

English Muffins. I love bread, there I said it.  I am just not that girl who can live on protein shakes and salad. English muffins have less carbs and fewer calories than bagels, but they are just as filling.  For an extra little snack kick try flavoured English muffins or slather your plain English muffin with jam or peanut butter…slather it with anything but Cheese Whiz.

Snack Bars. I don’t always have time to sit down in the morning and have a bowl of cereal; actually I never have time to do that.  I am the girl who prefers to sleep for an extra 15 minutes and grab breakfast on the go.  Sleeping is the best part of my day and I don’t want to give that up but I don’t want to be hungry either, so I eat a snack bar.

My favourite snack bars right now are Probars because they come in a variety of flavours. Visit their website and enter the code BLOGGER at checkout to get 40% off your entire order.

What is your favourite healthy snack?

 Michelle loves snacking on grapes.

 Marysa loves cheese and crackers

Elizabeth’s favourite snack is sugar snap peas.

Jenn loves snacking on pirate’s booty….UM what is this???

Friday Faves: Smooth skin, long lashes and happy feet

Happy Friday Lovlies!  I recently discovered the world of subscription boxes and I totally fell in love with the idea of getting a box full of surprises in the mail every month.  I don’t know about you, but I love getting mail, so getting mail full of little surprises is that much better.

Just in case you are a subscription box newbie (like I was) let me explain how it works…

1. You chose a genre such as health food or beauty products.

2. You make sure the monthly subscription fits in your budget (usually $10-$15 per month including shipping).

3. Sign up and start receiving your boxes in the mail.  It’s that easy!

Here are my favourite products from recent subscription boxes:

This Blinc mascara came in my Beauty Box 5 subscription box and it’s totally awesome.  Who knew that such a little mascara could have such a big impact? Beauty Box 5 only costs only $10 per month (shipping is included) and they deliver 4-5 beauty products right to your door. Other products I have received in my Beauty Box 5 include face wash, makeup remover, eye shadow and lip liner pencils (more reviews to come!).  PS – it really comes in the light blue box with a white bow.

I received this lightly scented body cream from C. Booth in my KLUTCHclub subscription box.  Klutch Club is a subscription box that focuses on healthy snacks, earth-friendly products and active wear.  Basically Klutch club is one stop shopping for everything you need to live a naturally healthy life.  This C.Booth cream is hydrating but it’s not greasy, that’s usually a hard combo to find.  Samples of products that may come in your Klutch Club subscription box include eco-friendly laundry detergent, soy snack bars and flavoured rice. A monthly Klutch Club subscription costs $16-$18 per month (including shipping) depending on the package that you choose.

I first heard about this heavenly foot cream from my friend Tammy @ Makeup Wishes and all I can say is WOW!  Alessandro International’s Heel Rescue Balm is a totally amazing foot cream that will help your tired and freezing feet get through the cold winter.  Kick back, lift up your feet and relax with Alessandro International’s Heel Rescue Balm.

This soothing foot cream blends in easily (because not all foot creams do) and that’s a plus; there is nothing worse than having big gobs of cream on your feet. Alessandro International’s Heel Rescue Balm has a refreshing scent of mint mixed with tea tree (I think).  After only three nights of using Alessandro’s Heel Rescue Balm my feet feel smoother and softer. Visit their website to find a local retailer near you.

Friday Faves: 3 Killer Thigh Workouts

Posted on

It’s Friday people!  Today I am writing to you with a lot of good news and I can’t wait to share so let’s get right into it.

1. I am happy to say that today marks the end of another great week at my new job, so that’s always good news.

2. I received my first book review from a fellow blogger and here is what As Green from Always the Planner has to say:

“I found A Better You to be a quick and very motivational read.  Tahnya Kristina gives you a ton of tips on how to get started and how to stay motivated.”

3. If you follow me on Twitter then you know that I have been looking for a killer thigh workout and after some love from my Tweeps I found 3 great thigh workouts.  Can you say HELLO Short Shorts!  Check them out and let me know which one is your fave.

- Hot Legs Sexy Butt Workout from BodyRock.tv – this is a killer workout.  It’s not fun because it’s hard work but you will feel great when you finish.  Actually that’s not true you will be sore but your thighs will thank you later.  Set 10 minutes aside, workout your thighs and then take a long warm bubble bath. PS – the motivation to get through this tough workout is to have a killer body like the girl in the video. Do this workout and you will look like that ——————————->>>>

- My Thighs are Dying! from Blogilates – this was the first workout that I tried and I liked it.  Cassy from Blogilates is fun and full of energy; she incorporates music with her at home workouts so that you have fun while working out.  This is not my all time favourite thigh workout but it’s not a bad way to spend 15 minutes.

- Gangnam Style Squat Challenge from Blogilates – I originally tried this workout because the music is fun and anything with a little bit of dancing can’t be so bad. I love this intense quick workout because I can always find 5 minutes in my day to blast away my thighs – especially while I dance to Gangnam Style.

4. Last but definitely not least, here are some of my favourite posts this week from my blogging friends:

- Daisy @ Add Vodka – Job Hopping & Generational Differences in Opinions About Careers (this is a fitting post considering the fact that I just left my decade long career and found my dream job)

- Rachel @ Running Rachel – Do You Give Your All? (really sit down and think about that for a moment. What did you set out to accomplish today? Did you put forth your best effort?)

- Carrie @ Careful Cents - Monthly Progress Report: Time to Make a Change (it is never too late to make changes in our lives and I honestly believe that. At 32 years old I finally decided that I didn’t want to be unhappy anymore and I started making changes.  You can read all about it in my new book)

Love Always.
