Friday Faves: I’m getting my Christmas tree

Posted on

Good morning Loves and Happy Friday. It’s the first weekend in December and tomorrow we are getting our Christmas tree.  I am so excited – I love decorating the tree, eating Christmas cookies and listening to Christmas music.  We are getting our tree a bit early this year and I hope it lasts well into January, thanks to my Ukrainian roots we leave our tree up until January 6th.

Oh BTW that’s not my house, or even my neighbourhood up above – it’s the Quincy Market in Boston. Just in case you were wondering.

When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Check out what my friends are writing about this week:

Friday Faves: Haters Gonna Hate

Posted on

Good morning Loves and Happy November 1st . Remember in Catholic school when November 1st was a holiday.  Yep that’s right, after spending the night trick or treating and eating candy Catholic school kids all across the country got to sleep in on November 1st because it’s All Saints Day.  Ahhh the good old days.

Before we get started – don’t forget to enter our awesome giveaway right heeerrrre to win a portable speaker for your iPod/iPad/iPhone from Tego Audio.

Ok now let’s get down to business…

Do you have someone in life that you want to/should hate, but can’t?

It’s not good to go through life with negativity, but in all honestly some people (like Casey Anthony and rapists) deserve to be hated.  I don’t feel bad for hating certain people because in my opinion they really just brought it upon themselves due to their bad behaviour.

So tell me Loves…Are You A Hater?

People that I want to hate…but can’t…and don’t know why

Britney Spears.  I am really cheering for her this time.  I am hoping that the 3rd comeback is the charm and it’s the one that sticks.  The world is a better place with a little Britney Spears in it.  I know she wasn’t a great mother (and maybe still isn’t but we just aren’t reading about it anymore) in her younger years, but I can’t hate her for it.  Everyone is allowed to have a mental breakdown every now and then…right?

Miley Cyrus.  I know that I should hate her for being skanky and portraying a less than desirable image for young girls everywhere, but I love her for being herself and being different than every other pop star.  I am not a fan of her new look (more clothes are definitely needed) and I definitely don’t agree with her dance moves all up on married men, but I still sing along with “We Can’t Stop” to the top of my lungs.  I love everything that the song stands for; women should be confident and unique.  Good for Miley Cyrus for breaking out of the Disney mold and becoming her own person.

The bitches from The Real Housewives. Oh my goodness I can’t get enough reality TV, you know that.  I love watching The Real Housewives….of anything…except Vancouver and Miami.  I love The Real Housewives of New Jersey, New York, The O.C. and Beverly Hills.  I would love to hate those women for being in their 40s and 50s and acting like mean girls in a school yard and I would love to hate women for hating on their own friends, but I just can’t.  Cat fights and rich girl drama make for really good reality TV and I continue to set my PVR every-single-week.

Love it or hate it, that’s me.

Have a great weekend.

Love Always,

Friday Faves: My music guilty pleasure is…

Posted on

Good morning Loves and Happy Friday.  As you know I absolutely love music.  I think that music makes the world a better place.

I associate certain songs with different important moments in my life like the song Unfoolish by Ashanti with my first real heart break and the song Dilemma by Nelly and Kelly Rowland with falling in love again.  I also always associate the song Bye Bye from Mariah Carey with the day my best friend Kevin passed away.  I know it’s morbid, but music helped me get through that tough time and I listened to that song over and over again for weeks.  To this day it still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.

I actually associate music with a lot of the good times and bad times in my life because music just some how always seems to make things better.  The perfect song can bring tears to my eyes or a smile to my face.  It can help me run through a tough workout or it can calm me down and help me fall asleep.  What can I say, I just really love music.

Then there are the songs that I am sort of embarrassed to love – but yet that doesn’t stop me from singing my heart out to them every single time I hear them on my iPod.

Do you have a music guilty pleasure?

You know that song that you secretly don’t like in front of your friends and pretend not to know the words to but then sing your heart out as loud as you can in your apartment when you are alone.

Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus is absolutely the one song that I love to hate.  What’s yours?

Have a great weekend.

Love Always,

Friday Faves: The best reason EVER to call in sick

Posted on

Good morning Loves.  I read an article this morning on MSN about the best (or worst) reasons to call in sick and it was just too funny so I have to share it with you.  We have all been there in the morning when our alarm clock rings and we just don’t have the energy to get out of bed, hop in the shower and be on our way to work.  So what do you do? Well, you call in sick of course.

Did you know that 36% of people who call in sick to work are NOT actually sick?

I have personally never done that, but so I’ve heard.  I am actually not at work today as I write this – but I did not call in sick, I took a few vacation days to go home to London.  As you read this I am on VIA Train 53 on my way from Quebec to Ontario.  HELLO extra long weekend!

If you call in sick to work but you are not really sick please let me give you a little bit of advice – just stay home and stay off the Internet.  Don’t go out for lunch with your friends and don’t post your status or pictures on Facebook and Twitter.  Remember that social media sites are public domains and if your employer has doubts about your sickness they may try to look you up.  It will be really bad news if you call in sick and then your boss sees a picture of you and your friends at the zoo on Facebook.

Here are the six best, or worst excuses to call in sick, I guess it depends on how to look at it.

6. My dead grandmother’s coffin is being dug up for a police investigation.

5. My toe is stuck in the faucet and I can’t move.

4. I am ovulating and I want to get pregnant today.

3. My dog is having a nervous breakdown and I have to stay with her.

2. I’m still drunk from last night.

The #1 reasons to call in sick- I am in a bad mood and I will punch someone if I come in.

What is your best excuse to call in sick?

Have a great weekend.

Love Always,

Friday Faves: Totally randoms & a road trip to Vermont

Posted on

Happy Friday Loves. I hope you had a great week. Two random pieces of information about me today to start your weekend.

  1. I heard this song by Kelis in my iPod on Tuesday and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head for three days.  I like the song – so it’s ok.

What’s the one song that you can’t get out of your head when you hear it? Does it start with “We are never ever getting back together” and end with “like ever”?

  1. I am taking a road trip to Vermont this weekend and it’s totally stoked.  Vermont is gorgeous and I love visiting.  If you have never been to Vermont, let me help you paint a mental picture. Vermont kind of looks like the opening credits of Gilmore Girls. Lots of trees, water and small town charm.

Enjoy these good reads from my friends:

Add Vodka – Check out her book recommendations

Friday Faves: Shark Week…I heart Shark Week

Posted on

Good morning Loves.  This week I spent my nights glued to the TV watching Shark Week on Discovery Channel.  You know that my favourite movie is Jaws, so watching Shark Week for seven days is definitely my favourite time of the year.

The Jaws ride in California is also my favourite attraction at Universal Studios, what can I say I am totally obsessed with sharks.   I know it may sound gruesome but I love watching documentaries about sharks, learning about their thought process and hearing the stories of survivors.

I don’t ever want to be in a cage in shark infested water – I’m not that curious, but I do always make a point to visit the shark habitat whenever I am at an aquarium.  The aquarium at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas is by far my favourite shark spot, it’s right out of the Sea World underground kingdom in the movie Jaws 3.  Terrifying and intriguing at the same time. Remember this scene from the movie   ————>

I learned some interesting facts about Shark Week and surprisingly some facts that I didn’t already know:

1. More people are attacked by Bull Sharks every year than Great White Sharks.

2. In Iceland scientists found a horse corpse inside a shark’s belly – I’m not sure how that happens.

3. The majority of people who are attached by sharks do not die.

4. Shark mating rituals are weird, and extremely violent – but hey, I guess that’s just the nature of the beast.

5. Sharks are a lot like people (or a lot like me anyways) they are calm and beautiful creatures until they feel threatened and then they go on the defensive and attack.  That’s right, contrary to popular belief sharks do not seek out people to eat.

6. For every 1 person that is killed by a shark, people kill 6 million sharks.

7. Sharks don’t have any bones – just teeth.

8. Sharks can smell blood in the water from 3 miles away.

Did you watch Shark Week? What was your favourite show?

Friday Faves: How to deal with a bad day

Posted on

Happy Friday Loves.  At 9 am I already spilt my coffee, I forget to put on deodorant and I was half an hour late for work. Today was just one of those days for me – one of those days when I should have just stayed in bed.  Nothing dramatic happened to me to today, it just seemed that nothing in my normal routine went as planned and I really hate that…especially on Fridays when I am usually at my happiest.

How do you make it through a bad day at the office?

1. Pretend you are on a reality TV show.  If your co-worker is bothering you, just pretend that you are going to vote them out next.

2. Take a little break.  Sometimes we get so into our zone that we can’t think anymore.  So get up, leave your desk, walk around and grab a bite to eat or a drink. It gives you a change of environment for 15 minutes and you can come back to your desk refreshed and ready to work.  Remember that cold drinks keep you awake while hot beverages make you all warm and cozy.

3. Find something you like to do and do it all day.  The day will go by a lot faster if you are doing something you love. So put off those tasks that you dislike and start doing something you love – even if it’s on your to do list for Monday…it’s ok to get a head start.

4. Picture yourself as the boss.  A little daydreaming never hurt nobody.  So picture yourself in that corner office.  Thinking about a promotion or a raise always gives me motivation to keep working on those days when I just want to be in bed.  PS – I always want to be in bed because I love napping.

5. Plan your next vacation.  Having something to look forward to, especially a vacation, always makes me smile and feel better.  Next weekend I am going to Vermont for the day (it’s only an hour from Montreal), at the end of the month I will be in Toronto and in October I am going to NYC for my birthday week…all vacations to look forward to.

Love Always,
