Friday Faves: Bon Jovi, Tony Danza and Christmas

Happy Friday Everyone. I am super excited to tell you that as of tomorrow at noon I will be the proud owner of Bon Jovi tickets for the show in Montreal on February 13, 2013. I love Bon Jovi but I’m not going to lie, I didn’t know who he was until I saw him on Sex & the City.

My thoughts go out to everyone who has experienced the wrath of Hurricane Sandy.  I hope that you are all ok. We are getting a lot of rain and a lot of strong winds up here in Montreal.  It’s cold and rainy outside, so why not stay inside and read some great blog posts?

Happy Birthday Beyonce!

It’s September 4th and that means its Beyonce Knowles birthday. This year Beyonce is 30 years old. I have a love/hate relationship with Ms. Beyonce Knowles aka Mrs. Jay-Z.  I love her music but I hate her diva personality. Beyonce is one of the women on my boyfriend’s free pass list. This means that my boyfriend can sleep with Beyonce and we don’t have to break up, or he can leave me for Beyonce and there will be no hard feelings.

One of the reasons that I don’t like Beyonce is because she broke up one of my favourite girl groups Destiny’s Child to become a solo RnB artist. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are the two former members of Destiny’s Child, and Kelly Rowland was my favourite Destiny’s Child member. Although I was disappointed that Destiny’s Child broke up as a group it was really no surprise that Beyonce wanted to become a solo artist.  Beyonce’s family has always played an active role in her career with her Mother designing the wardrobe choices for Destiny’s Child and her Father was their Manager. It was obvious that Beyonce’s family only had her best interest at heart.  Is it a good idea to mix business with family if the family is not yours?

The second reason why I am not a huge fan of Beyonce is because Beyonce married Jay-Z.  This is really too bad for me because I was planning to marry Jay-Z. Many years ago I remember seeing Destiny’s Child make a cameo in the HOVA video and I thought to myself “Wow! Jay-Z and Beyonce are sitting a little bit too close to each other”, if you know what I mean. I never thought in a million years that Jay-Z would date, marry, or have a baby with Beyonce Knowles…but I was wrong, and I am totally heartbroken.

Beyonce was in a successful group with Destiny’s Child.  However, she is now a solo singer, and her two former co workers became her back up dancers.  Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams were featured in one of Beyonce’s solo videos, as well as on a live performance at an awards show. I think its great that Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, the two former members of Destiny’s Child, are still friends with Beyonce Knowles.  I don’t know if I could remain friends with someone who broke up a successful group to become a solo artist, and then ask me to be a back up dancer in their video.  Would you (or do you) mix business with friendships?

NKOTBSB Concert Review

On Tuesday June 7 I went to the Bell Center in Montreal to see the NKOTBSB Concert with my friend Gabriella.  As I was born in 1980 and admittedly I totally love the New Kids on the Block.  I saw them 3 times when I was younger in the 1990’s, and I was extremely excited to see them again in 2011.  My teddy bear is named Jordan after Jordan Knight.  I received my teddy bear Jordan as a Christmas gift in 1989, and 22 years later I still sleep with him every night.

The Bell Center was packed with screaming teenagers, young adults, and some not so young women.  I was very impressed to see the age range of NKOTBSB female fans, along with some male fans.  I was also impressed that people wore NKOTBSB t-shirts and made posters; it was like being back in the 1990’s all over again.

I originally bought tickets to see New Kids on the Block, and I was surprised to learn that I really like The Backstreet Boys.  I was singing along to all of The Backstreet Boys songs just as much as I was singing along to the New Kids on the Block songs. It was fun to take a night off from being a young professional and become a fun loving screaming NKOTBSB fan!

The NKOTBSB concert was complete with all the greatest hits such as The Right Stuff, Quit Playing Games With My Heart, Cover Girl, I Want It That Way, and Step by Step.  The encore performances were Hangin Tough by NKOTB and Everybody by BSB.

I have to be honest; I thought that The Backstreet Boys were better on stage than New Kids on the Block.  The Backstreet Boys performance was more energetic and they had more audience interaction than New Kids on the Block.  The Backstreet Boys brought four female fans onto the stage out of the audience to personally serenade them.  Some of the girls were singing along, one looked like she was going to cry, and the other one was so shocked (or scared) that she didn’t move an inch throughout the whole song.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself during the night of the NKOTBSB concert in Montreal, partially because of the boy band show and partially because of my fun loving friend Gabriella.  I always have a great time whenever we hang out together.  Our night was complete with dancing, screaming, and carefree fun.  The NKOTBSB concert was complete with synchronized dance moves, heart-throbbing songs, pelvis thrusting, and a shirtless Donnie. When you are the brother of Marky Mark it’s only normal to have a hot body!

The one thing that Gabriella and I did not do was buy any souvenirs.  I know that NKOTBSB fans have grown up from teenagers into young adults with disposable income but seriously…$25 for a flashing glow light or a pair of I heart NKOTBSB underwear is totally ridiculous!

My Favourite Love Songs

Happy Valentine’s Day! This week I am in the mood for love; and what better way to celebrate the love (or loves)  in our lives than with some great music.

These are my favourite songs about love, falling in love, and being in love. Every time I hear them I get chills. I also get another emotion that won’t be mentioned on this blog. (wink wink)

Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey.  This is one of Mariah Carey’s earlier songs, and it’s just a great song that always makes me smile.  The beat is not so slow that it is sexy, and it’s not too fast that it is a song for dancing. It’s just a great song to sit back in the arms of your loved one, or reminisce about your past loves.  Even if you break up, a true love will always be a part of you.  If your love is truly meant to be, it’s only a matter of time until you are together again.

Angel by Natasha Bedingfield. I love this song because it’s about loving your man so much that you would do anything for him.  I love the climax of this song, it makes me smile and think about all of the great times that I’ve had with my boyfriend in the past.  This is a song about the strength of true love.

I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith.  This is the famous song from the movie Armageddon, and it makes me cry whenever I hear it. The song is about loving someone so much that you want to spend every minute of every day with them.  You don’t want to fall asleep because you don’t want to miss even a second of time that could be spent together with your love.  It makes me cry because I think that Armageddon is one of the Saddest Movies of All Time.

Be Without You by Mary J Blige. Mary J is definitely one of my favourite R and B singers.  I have loved her every since her song Real Love came out back in the early 90’s.  This song is about loving someone so much that it hurts.  When he isn’t lying beside you, you can sleep without him; and when he isn’t by your side, you are thinking about him.

My Boo by Alicia Keys and Usher.  You may remember from a previous post that I love this song.  I could listen to it over and over again without ever getting bored. This song is about that uncontrollable feeling of our first kiss with our first love.  It’s about the one love of your life that got away. No matter where life takes us, every now and then we stop and think about the feeling of falling in love with our first (and maybe our one and only) true love. (The song starts at 0.53 seconds into the video).

Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips. This is an oldie but goodie. I always get chills whenever I hear this song in my iPod, and I wasn’t even alive when it first came out. I love this song because it is about a love so strong that you are willing to give up your dreams for your loved one.  “I’d rather live in his world, than be without him in mine.”

The Best Break Up Songs

Music is a major part of my life.  As I close one chapter of my life and turn the page onto the next music seems to always be my constant.  My current family situation with my Dad has brought back memories of my past break ups.

Although I have not yet found a break up song for my current break up with my Dad.  Here are some songs that have helped me survive my past break ups.

Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood This is a song for everyone who is about to break up, but they don’t know it yet.  If your break up is a surprise, your reactions may also be a surprise.  Of course I don’t agree with violence or vandalism; but sometimes bad people need to be taught a lesson.  I am sure they will think twice about their actions next time.

“I took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights; I slashed a hole in all four tires. Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats.  I might have saved a little trouble for the next girl, because the next time that he cheats, it won’t be on me.”

Foolish by Ashanti If you are in the beginning of a potential break up then this is the song for you.  It reminds us that if we are unhappy we need to break up. 

“My days are cold without you, but I’m hurting while I’m with you. When my heart can’t take no more I keep on running back to you. All the things that we accept are the things that we regret.”

All I Have by J.Lo and LL Cool J This song is sad, and it is for those of us who are in the saddest time of our relationships.  After the initial shock wears off, and before the anger kicks in, we are sad.  We question everything we said and did during the entire relationship; and we replay every second of the break up in our heads.  Please let me reassure you…Yes, you made the right decision.

“It’s such a shame but I’m leaving. I can’t take the way you treated me. All my pride is all I have. You’ll be needing me but too bad. Nothing you can say to me that can change my mind, I’ve got to let you go now. Nothing will ever be the same, so just be on your way.”

Breakin Dishes by Rihanna After the sadness is gone, the anger kicks in.  We may want to seek revenge for all of the hurt and pain.  It’s good to vent our anger, and release the tension, but violence is never the answer.

Irreplaceable by Beyonce This is a song for those of us who are towards the end of our break up and ready to move on to the next special person in our lives.  If you are unhappy in your relationship, then you should break up.  We can always find someone else, someone new, and someone better.

“Keep talking that mess that’s fine. But could you walk and talk at the same time?”  I can have another you in a minute; as a matter of fact he’ll be here in a minute. I can have another you by tomorrow, don’t you ever for a second get to thinking that you are irreplaceable.”
