Friday Faves: What’s your favourite summer song?

Posted on

Hello Loves and Happy Friday.

Today was hot and sunny and the perfect way to celebrate the first day of summer. As I listened to my iPod at work today I started thinking about how music can remind us about a particular time in our lives. There will always be that one song that reminds you of a breakup, the one song that makes you want to cry because you miss someone you lost and the one song that makes you want to dance like you are 13 years old again.

Today I sent out a question on Twitter asking people what’s your favourite summer song? Here’s what people are saying (or should I say typing) so far:

- Summer Love by Justin Timberlake (heard it on my iPod today)

- Gin and Juice by Snoop Dogg (that’s mine)

- All Summer Long by Kid Rock (another excellent choice)

- Hot in Herre by Nelly (aaahhh the memories)

What do you think? What’s your favourite summer party song?

Friday Faves: Tips to help you blog better

Posted on

Pinned Image

Happy Friday.  This week has been all about sharing the love on My Diary Entry and today is no different.  We started off the week with two amazing giveaways – in case you didn’t have a chance to check them out you can enter to win two books here and a gift box full of cosmetics here.

I recently celebrated my four year blogging anniversary and to say that I have learned a lot over the past four years would be an understatement.  Today I am sharing my knowledge with you, if you are a new blogger who is trying to get your blog noticed or if you are a seasoned blogger who wants to take their blog to the next level then look no further I am here to help.

Blog Better with these 3 tips:

1. Join a network. No one will promote your blog (no matter how great it is), so go online and promote yourself.  Joining a blog network in your niche is a great way to spread the word about your blog and meet experienced bloggers.

Some well known blogging networks include BlogHer, SheBlogs, Clever Member and Yakezie.  Make personal connections with other bloggers and try to find ways to work together.  Attending blog conferences is another great way to learn about blogging, meet other bloggers and promote your blog (and your services if you also freelance).

2. Get on Twitter.  Find a tweet chat about your blog’s topic and join the conversation.  Actually all social media is a good way to promote your blog.  If you don’t have one yet you should create a Facebook page for your blog and join Pinterest.

Any type of sharing social media is a great way for you to share and promote your blog.  There is a WordPress plugin that allows you to post blog comments directly to your Facebook page – another great sharing tool to promote your blog.

Add photos and videos.  Writing for the web takes a special talent – visual effects are the key to a successful blog. No one wants to read page after page of only words so make your blog pretty and appealing with photos, videos and subtitles.

Your blog should be easy to read regardless of the topic and intended purpose.  Speaking of which, your blog should have a purpose – ask yourself what are you writing about and why should people read it.

Happy Blogging.

PS – if you have questions about blogging please contact me anytime, I would be happy to check out your blog and give you some feedback.

My 2013 Goals: Freelance Writing, $20K & 120 lbs

Posted on

Good Morning Loves. Last week I published a post about the one thing that I am not going to do this year and it suddenly dawned on me that I didn’t tell everyone about my personal goals and resolutions for 2013.

I have vowed not to wake up early and make the most out of my mornings in 2013 because I truly believe that there is nothing you can do at 8 am that you can’t do at 2 pm.

I received some emails and Twitter comments wondering why I am only setting personal goals of things that I don’t want to do in 2013 instead of listing all the things that I want to accomplish this year.

If you read My Diary Entry on a regular basis you know that I am a huge planner (some may even say OCD) and I am a big fan of lists.

So here it is…my list of things to do in 2013.

Money Goals:

1. Save $15,000: That’s $1250 per month and so far I am on track

2. Earn $20,000 from my freelance writing income: That’s $1667 per month but the problem is that freelance writing does not always provide a steady income. Just to give you an idea of my freelance writing income from past years I earned $7,800 in 2011 and $14,500 in 2012. More to come next week on how I am going to achieve my freelance writing income goal this year.

Career Goals:

1. Start a professional website for my freelance writing services: This is my current priority, I am deciding between tahnyakristina.com or Pen and Paper Communications –what do you think?

2. Become an active member of an online blogging network: A network will help promote and grow this blog to be the best that it can be. I am leaning towards BlogHer, Yakezie or Clever Member – are you a member of a blog network?

3. Find a publisher for my first book A Better You and get it in stores:  I want to travel and speak at schools, workshops and conferences to help people find their dream job, earn more income, become debt free and find personal happiness. I did it and I want to help people do it too.

Fitness Goals:

1. Reach my goal weight by July 31: This year I started exercising on a regular basis and I absolutely love it.  My entire outlook on life has changed and I am a happier person.

2. Join an online fitness community: The only way to keep fit and have fun is to have a support system. I am leaning towards Fit Fluential – any other suggestions?

What are your goals for 2013?

Love Always,

Friday Faves: 3 Killer Thigh Workouts

Posted on

It’s Friday people!  Today I am writing to you with a lot of good news and I can’t wait to share so let’s get right into it.

1. I am happy to say that today marks the end of another great week at my new job, so that’s always good news.

2. I received my first book review from a fellow blogger and here is what As Green from Always the Planner has to say:

“I found A Better You to be a quick and very motivational read.  Tahnya Kristina gives you a ton of tips on how to get started and how to stay motivated.”

3. If you follow me on Twitter then you know that I have been looking for a killer thigh workout and after some love from my Tweeps I found 3 great thigh workouts.  Can you say HELLO Short Shorts!  Check them out and let me know which one is your fave.

- Hot Legs Sexy Butt Workout from BodyRock.tv – this is a killer workout.  It’s not fun because it’s hard work but you will feel great when you finish.  Actually that’s not true you will be sore but your thighs will thank you later.  Set 10 minutes aside, workout your thighs and then take a long warm bubble bath. PS – the motivation to get through this tough workout is to have a killer body like the girl in the video. Do this workout and you will look like that ——————————->>>>

- My Thighs are Dying! from Blogilates – this was the first workout that I tried and I liked it.  Cassy from Blogilates is fun and full of energy; she incorporates music with her at home workouts so that you have fun while working out.  This is not my all time favourite thigh workout but it’s not a bad way to spend 15 minutes.

- Gangnam Style Squat Challenge from Blogilates – I originally tried this workout because the music is fun and anything with a little bit of dancing can’t be so bad. I love this intense quick workout because I can always find 5 minutes in my day to blast away my thighs – especially while I dance to Gangnam Style.

4. Last but definitely not least, here are some of my favourite posts this week from my blogging friends:

- Daisy @ Add Vodka – Job Hopping & Generational Differences in Opinions About Careers (this is a fitting post considering the fact that I just left my decade long career and found my dream job)

- Rachel @ Running Rachel – Do You Give Your All? (really sit down and think about that for a moment. What did you set out to accomplish today? Did you put forth your best effort?)

- Carrie @ Careful Cents - Monthly Progress Report: Time to Make a Change (it is never too late to make changes in our lives and I honestly believe that. At 32 years old I finally decided that I didn’t want to be unhappy anymore and I started making changes.  You can read all about it in my new book)

Love Always.

Friday Faves: The top 4 attractions in Las Vegas

Posted on

The primary reason for my trip to Las Vegas was to escape the cold Canadian winter because I had a little bit of time off while in between jobs.  But as an added bonus I went to a media/blogging conference while I was out there. Oh and I saw Dennis Rodman at Planet Hollywood…score!

If you follow me on Twitter – and I’m sure you do because you are awesome – you know that I had a great time in Vegas and you have already seen some of my pictures.  But for those of you who don’t (yet) follow me on Twitter or may have missed my tweet pics here you go!

Have a great weekend everyone; be sure to check My Diary on Monday for tips about how to feel skinner before you go to bed.

My 4 favorite things to do in Las Vegas:

1. The Shark Reef aquarium at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.  The cost is $18 for admission but it is totally worth it.  There are sharks, exotic fish, sting rays (which you can touch) and jellyfish.  There is even a komodo dragon and an anaconda to see.  You get to walk through an underground tunnel (yes just like the scene in Jaws 3 at Sea World) as the sharks swim over you and all around you.  It should definitely a must do on your Las Vegas list.

2. Peep Show at Planet Hollywood.  This is a Las Vegas show that turns your favourite fairy tales into a musical.  Little Bo Peep takes a journey through her dream as she is on a quest to find the perfect man.  With a little guidance from red riding hood and the three little pigs Little Bo Peep gets the confidence (and sexiness) she needs to find the man of her dreams.

This show stars Coco from the reality TV show Ice Loves Coco and Josh Strickland from the reality TV show Holly’s world.  PS – I sent Josh a tweet after the show and he actually tweeted me back! Tickets for this show usually start at $80 but I purchased mine for only $45 with Tix for Tonight. So I saw an amazing show at half price, thank you Las Vegas.  There is some partial nudity in Peep Show so brace yourself for that – it was a total shock to me!

3. Eli Roth’s Goretorium.  I went to this Las Vegas style haunted house because all conference attendees were offered a free ticket.  To my surprise it was really fun, of course it was scary but I had a good time as I screamed all the way through it.  The Goretorium is an interactive haunted house with live actors, a tour guide and news breaking real life Vegas story to set it all off.  The tour through the multi-storey haunted house takes approximately 30 minutes and I believe that the regular ticket price is $30.

4. The roller coaster at New York New York Hotel and Casino. This was a new attraction last time I was in Las Vegas and unfortunately I did not get a chance to ride it so this time I made a point to buy a ticket. It costs $14 to ride the roller coaster and if you want to ride it a second time in the same day the ticket is half price.  You have not seen Las Vegas until you have seen it from 1000 feet in the air. Good times!

Love Always.
